San Antonio River Walk

Welcome to San Antonio!

Enjoying the famed River Walk
Enjoying the famed River Walk

Thank y’all for joining me in this week’s escape deep in the heart of Texas. Named after the Christian saint by the Spanish missionaries who founded it, San Antonio is seeped in history. This is the home of Texan and Native American museums, the Alamo, and–according to 10Best.com of USA Today Travel–the sixth best boat ride in the United States.

River Walk

River Walk draws more than 1.5 million tourists each year.  Winding paths run along a 2.5 mile stretch of luxurious hotels, thirty-two eateries, nightclubs, retail shops, and other entertainment.  Completed in 2009, the newer Museum Reach cruise section added another 1.3 miles of walkways for tourists and locals alike to enjoy. Altogether, the actual San Antonio River and the human-made sections extend more than fifteen miles.

AND if you happen to take the cruise on a weekend evening, you may get lucky and see this:

Hope y’all enjoyed your stroll with me!

    1. Hi Shari! It was a bit hot trekking around it in July, but I appreciated the Spanish influence. I also really enjoyed the history lesson within the river tour, including the hospital building that appears 2-D and which can claim Carol Burnett was born there. Interesting stuff.

      Have a terrific week!

    1. Thanks, David! Glad you enjoyed it. The photos cannot express the intensity of the temperature, but I hope to one day return in a different season and explore street-level of this fascinating city.

  1. Wish I’d been there! It looks like you all had a lovely time. BTW, I couldn’t play the video above. It says that it’s private…hmmm. Makes me wonder what else you were up to in San Antonio.

  2. Jolyse, it looks like you had a great time! 🙂 Sorry I had to miss RWA#14. I was able to enjoy the Riverwalk last year in November when my daughter graduated from USAF boot camp. It was lovely. *see you next year in NYC RWA#15*

    1. I missed you, Jan. The conference was good. I saw a number of uniformed young men and women. They looked so young! November would definitely be a preferable month to walk along the San Antonio River. All those pictures above show you how beautiful it is, but it was also amazingly HOT. (Says the northerner. LOL)

Take care, and yes, we’ll see each other at #RWA15! 🙂

  3. My family and I visited the week between Christmas and New Year. The River Walk around Christmastime is amazing with all the beautiful lights! Was still too hot for me though lol

    1. I’ve seen photos of River Walk’s holiday parade. I researched and it takes place the Friday after Thanksgiving. I’d love to see that…if I weren’t busy recuperating from the holiday. Wow! It’s hot there in December, too. Hmm. Maybe February is their coolest month? LOL. I guess I have to do more research.

Thanks for stopping by, Maggie, and it was wonderful to see you last evening and chat for a bit. Your niece is lovely, too. 🙂
