Celebrating A Book Birthday!

Hi all!

Forgive my blushing after you view my very first attempt at vlogging (Obviously not a forte for this introverted writer! I promise you it’s okay if you laughed. I know I did every time I listened to it–and the one you see above was about Take 23 or so.)

But…

I’m so excited about this book news that I just had to tell you in addition to writing about it. His Kiss is one of the three reasons  I’ve been in my writer’s cave so much the past six months. (More about the other two projects in a bit.) It’s  my second novel in the NEW YORK series, set in the fictional small-town of Starling in the beautiful Adirondacks region. Jeremy was introduced in A Light in the Window (now renamed Christmas Light), and is Jade Engel’s brother and Ben Stephens best friend. His Kiss begins about eighteen months after the Christmas story.

As with the Christmas in NY series, all the books in the Summer in New York series are stand-alone, but the many of the characters appear in each other’s stories. We worked hard to not “give away” any details from the current romances, which is why, if you’ve already read that first series you’ll notice much more of Jade and Ben along with the other core three girls than Reid and Kara (from Patty Blount’s His Touch) or Gavin and Toni (from Jennifer Gracen’s His Love).

The reviews for His Kiss are already starting to come in, and I’m thrilled that Jeremy and Elizabeth’s journey to love is resonating with readers. One of those that struck home with me was a reviewer’s comment that my stories each have “strong women with men who stand beside them.” I do love strong heroines and believe that woman choose their destiny,  so even though this book’s seed idea may have begun with my hero, Jeremy, Elizabeth plays a vital role in the romance rather than merely being swept along by him.

In celebration of this happy occasion, I’ll be giving away one digital copy of Christmas Light or His Kiss to two random commenters.** All you have to do is tell what makes you blush (if you still do!). If you don’t, please tell us why. (I want to know your secret!)

If you read His Kiss (or Christmas Light) and enjoy it, please consider leaving a review on Amazon or Goodreads. And let me know, too, so I can personally thank you! I truly appreciate each and every one of my readers. Like you, I enjoy the escape of a great story and want a happily-ever-after.

Oh, and before I forget, the other two projects that have been keeping me busy are my romantic suspense/magic novel, One More Sunset, which will be coming out this fall, and a fun contemporary called Text Me, Baby, with an expected release of Spring 2016. I know that seems far off, but will be here before we know it. So…I’d better get back to my writing so you can have more to read.

Until next time,

Jolyse

PS – Don’t forget to comment to be entered into the giveaway! 🙂

**Must be 18 or older. US and Canada only, my apologies to all other readers. Winners will be announced after July 17th and must contact me within seven days of announcement to choose their desired title. Good luck!

  1. Being in the medical field, I can’t think of anything that would make me blush. I have seen a lot in my years.

    1. Oh dear, Shari! I imagine that’s got to be true. I know I’m not anywhere as modest around medical professionals as I used to be, now that I have delivered a child. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Jess! My daughter and I were laughing so hard because we learned that I’m constantly moving when I talk (which moved the bed we were sitting on) and it was a REAL struggle for me to sit still and still sound excited. I still blush when I see/hear myself on video, but I’m going to keep practicing until it feels natural. I loved your vlog of the beer festival that time. 🙂

  2. Hi Jolyse!!

After sixteen years of marriage, my husband can still make blush. He’s a great guy and loves me bunches.

    xo,

    Jennifer

    1. I hear you, Jennifer! I think it’s sweet that you have such a wonderful, loving husband. Enjoy!!! oxo

  3. haha, i’m very prone to blushing. weird things make me blush. any time i’m embarrassed, being around someone i have feelings for, discussing personal topics (depending on who is around).

    1. Hi Crystal! Thanks so much for stopping by. I’d imagine that having to divulge personal information with strangers or people you feel uncomfortable around would be good reason to blush.

Have a terrific week and hope you’re enjoying your summer! 🙂

  4. Nice to see you out and about again Jolyse. I wouldn’t worry too much about the vlog if I were you, it’s not bad at all. But if you want embarrassment, I did read a chapter of my first book on youtube and almost decided never to speak again after I heard it. I sound like the village idiot on a bad day. A terrible accent and slouched down like the couch was going to swallow me….I wish it had.

    1. Oh my, David. I’ll have to check it out! Perhaps it will make me a little less self-conscious about my first efforts to see another newbie giving it a go.

I have another vlog coming out on my friend, Jeannie Moon’s website later this week and it’s three minutes long. (Oh, the horror!!) It doesn’t even sound like me at the beginning until I start to focus on my topic rather than the camera. Being comfortable on camera is definitely going to be a learned skill for me. 🙂

Great to see you here and wishing you well! oxo

  5. This is terrific! Great site! I can’t wait to check out the book!
    Congratulations! Wishing you much success!!!

    1. Thanks, Amy! I hope you enjoy it and are having a wonderful start to your summer. I’m making sure I get out a bit each day and savor the warm weather and freedom while it lasts. 🙂

  6. Congratulations Jolyse! I know you’ve worked hard and it’s paid off. Being in front of a camera always makes me nervous. Don’t enter me in the contest, as I have both books. I can’t wait to start His Kiss!

    1. So you’re camera shy like me. I should challenge you to a vlog-off one day, huh?

Writing Jeremy and Elizabeth’s story was such a different experience for me than my previous books. I FELT them even more, if that makes sense. I’m hopeful that helps readers connect to them as well, even if they don’t have any personal experience with the troubles the characters encountered.

Enjoy the flip flop weather!!! <3

      1. Oh yes, I can’t stand having my photo taken…and a video…the thought gives me hives. 🙂
Yes, that makes sense, Jolyse and it is a great feeling to have.
I’m loving these temps in the 90s!

        1. I DID get hives for the vlog I needed to make for Jeannie Moon’s website! (I think that guest post comes out late this week.) I watched it play back and wondered, “Who is that woman?” until finally it got to the last forty-five seconds or so when I was comfortable and sounded a lot more like me. The improvement I noticed in that three minute clip gives me confidence that I’ll get better at it. I bet if you practiced it a lot by yourself first, you’d get over your shyness too.

          Yay for summer!! 🙂

    1. Maybe this blushing vs. not blushing is a genetic thing…I’m seeing that people are definitely one or the other. Thanks for stopping by and sharing, bn100. 🙂

    1. Yeah, kids can do that, can’t they? The good news is we can embarrass them so easily too. Nothing like singing in the car in front of their friends… 😉

  7. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Gretchen and Crystal S. are the random winners of my new release, HIS KISS. Please email me at jolysebarnett@gmail.com with the email address to which you’d like your gift ebook to be sent.

Thanks to everyone who participated and happy reading! <3
