Welcome! Kick off your shoes and slip into a comfy pair of flip flops.
Back in late April, the weather here on Long Island was unseasonably warm. On one of those beautiful afternoons, my husband and I hit the jackpot–home without the kids.
Our pool wasn’t open yet, but that didn’t stop him from grabbing the loungers out of the backyard shed while I poured wine and plated chips and salsa. All that was missing was a palm tree swaying in the breeze.
And some laidback, tropical tunes.
That got me to thinking. Margarita Moments aficionados need a playlist. Here’s the compilation to date (Titles to be added with reader suggestions!):
- Margaritaville – Jimmy Buffett
- Key West Address – James T. Slater
- Toes – Zac Brown Band
- Living on Key West Time – Howard Livingston & Mile Marker 24
- No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problems – Kenny Chesney
- Pour Me a Vacation – Pete Harris
- Hot Sand, Pina Coladas, and Caribbean Beer – Seth Turner
- Changes in Latitude – Jimmy Buffett
- I Don’t Have to Be Me Until Monday – Steve Azur
- Here in the Conch Republic – Howard Livingston & Mile Marker 24
- Key West Intermezzo (I Saw You First) – John Mellencamp
- Looe Key Tiki Bar – Howard Livingston & Mile Marker 24
- When the Sun Goes Down – Kenny Chesney
- Two Pina Coladas – Garth Brooks
- Blame it on the Margaritas – Howard Livingston & Mile Marker 24
- Meet Me in the Keys – Howard Livingston & Mile Marker 24
- I’m Living on an Island – Howard Livingston & Mile Marker 24
- Red Wine – UB40
- All Summer Long – Kid Rock
- Baby I Love Your Way – Big Mountain
Have you ever heard of #2? If this song’s lighthearted lyrics and video doesn’t get those flip flops dancing, I don’t know what will. Enjoy!
I love this YouTube slideshow of one of my favorite tunes.
Do you have any songs to add to our playlist? Where do you buy your comfy flip flops?
Blogging this past month was really fun! Thanks for helping celebrate Jolyse Barnett’s Margarita Moments & Other Escapes first blogiversary. All May commenters’ names were placed in a hat (one slip per comment) and my obliging daughter randomly picked out the winner. Congratulations to Catie Rhodes!!! Email me at jolysebarnett@gmail.com with your address and your handpainted, crystal Lolita Margarita glass will soon be on its way. I look forward to future giveaways that include a copy of my latest release. It’s only a matter of hard work, luck, and timing, right? 🙂
I’m glad Mellencamp made the list. I love his music. I’d add Garth Brooks’s Two Pina Coladas (gotta have one for each hand). Great play list!
Great suggestion, Julie. Done!! 😀
Love this post! A couple of other fav’s of ours:
Blame it on the Margaritas – Howard Livingston
Meet Me in the Keys – Howard Livingston
I’m living on an Island = Howard Livingston
Have a great weekend, lets all pretend we are in the Keys
Great additions to the playlist, Jeff. Enjoy yours, too. 🙂
Love this list and these songs. I’m too tired to think of any to add right now, but I’ll be back to check to see what others have added. 🙂
Thanks for the compliment, Rhonda. Looking forward to your additions when you have a chance. 🙂
This might be the closest I get to Key West this year, but I adore this !
Hello, my friend. Don’t fret, we’ll get you there eventually! In the meantime, download whichever songs you like from this list and create your own Tropical Dreams playlist to enjoy at the pool or beach this summer. (I’ll keep adding links for the songs so you can preview them first.)
Happy weekend! Hope you spend it doing what you love. 🙂
To me, UB40’s music sounds summery with its reggae twist. And I love “All Summer Long” by Kid Rock. It’s more southern than tropical, of course, but I still like it.
Great additions, Catie! Happy summer. 🙂
Definitely Kohls…or really anywhere that sells flip flops. I’m not too picky so long as they’re comfortable. As far as music, I agree with the reggae vibe: “Baby, I Love Your Way” by Big Mountain, and I’ll jump on the UB40 bandwagon with “Red Wine” 😉
Hi Tuere! I shop Kohl’s; will have to check out the flip-flops. I’m down to only two pairs. What’s a girl to do?
Thanks for playlist ideas. Good ones!! 🙂
I love Knee Deep and most all of Jimmy Buffet’s tunes would work! Love this post, Jolyse!
Knee Deep is great, isn’t it? Happy you enjoyed! 😀
WOW, I’m honored, THANKS!!!! Cheers, Howie
You’re very welcome, Howie! I’m thrilled you happened upon my happy little blog. Thank you for making music that allows us to recapture our fond memories of Key West getaways while at home on Long Island.
In case you missed it, Livin’ on Key West Time is featured on a YouTube slideshow I created this past winter. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂
Maybe someday I’ll have the oppotunity to see your band perform live in the Conch Republic or here on my island, if you ever venture this far north. In the meantime, I’ll be dancing to your music in my flip flops with a cool drink in hand. Cheers!
